Driving in the slow lane.
This is how I changed the clutch on my series 3 land rover because it has always slipped when warm since I bought it so I decided to have a go myself and was going to be a one man job start to finish. I am no mechanic and only have the basic tools and working outside on a gravel driveway. Not the fastest of workers I decided to do it over 3 days this is how I did it with the help of my Haynes manual....
What I used..
Haynes Manual
Halfords Socket and spanner set.
Trolley Jack.
Various sized blocks of wood..
Small Plastic bags and cable ties.
New clutch kit from Paddock spares.

Day 1.
Remove everything day.
As my Land rover has been well maintained I did not come across any real problems with rounded or rusted nuts and bolts.
1st I removed flooring and tunnel covers and under seat trays. There is no need to remove the seat box.
All the screws and nuts and bolts I put in small plastic bags and cable tie to where they came from.
Then I removed both prop shafts and the slave cylinder and tied up out of the way.
Next was the speedo cable from the gearbox and the handbrake lever attachment to the gearbox..
Finally I jacked up the gearbox with the trolley jack to hold the weight of the gearbox and removed the gearbox mounts nuts and all the bellhousing nuts.

Day 2.
Fit Clutch Day..
Lay a block of wood across the middle seat part of the seat box and tie the rear of the gearbox to this wood to take the weight of the gearbox. With the trolley jack under the front of the gearbox pull back the gearbox on the trolley jack and the gearbox should separate from the bell housing. move back the gearbox as far as it goes even with a overdrive fitted you will have enough room to change the clutch and release bearing. Now remove the clutch cover and the friction plate and change the release bearing and then fit new friction plate and clutch cover. To centre the clutch and cover I used a spark plug socket with tape around it then tightened the cover and remove the socket..
Now I lined up the gearbox with the bell housing and slowly pushed them back together and with a bit of a wiggle they slotted together and then bolted the gearbox to the bell housing.

Day 3.
Put it back together.
This is just put it all back together in the reverse of how I removed everything...
This is a basic description of how I did it and yes I could have done it a lot quicker but it is a rough guide on how to change your clutch and yes one man can do it with just basic tools.
